Dear Westchester County NY State Democratic Leaders,
The Westchester Asian American Democrats’ Executive Board is requesting your support for the historic $64.5 million New York State AAPI Equity Budget, a pioneering proposal developed in partnership with more than 50 statewide AAPI community organizations, and will be the most significant action in the United States to date in addressing and combating the horrific surge in anti-Asian hate, the disproportionate impacts of COVID-19, and the historically inequitable underfunding of New York’s AAPI communities, which face the highest rates of poverty, housing insecurity and language inaccessibility.
Thank you to Senators Jamaal Bailey and Alessandra Biaggi, and Assemblymember Chris Burdick for your leadership in signing on to respective Senate and Assembly Letters of Support for this AAPI Equity Budget. We are also grateful to Senators Shelley Mayer and Peter Harckham for their commitment to supporting this funding. We call on the rest of the Westchester delegation to join your colleagues in support of this budget, which impacts all of your districts and constituents. The full proposal segments out in great detail the total of $64.5 million in targeted funding for AAPI community organizations, pandemic-related resources, K-12 AAPI curriculum and educational programs, and data disaggregated projects.
Your support will be significant and lauded in the AAPI community, the fastest growing racial group and electorate in Westchester county and New York state. Your collective leadership in our Democratic majority in Albany requires your unified commitment to our community at this time.
Sincerely,
WAAD Executive Board
